RHINO
by Patrick J. O’Reilly
An Adaptation of Rhinoceros by Eugène Ionesco
“There’s no such thing as absolute right, It’s the world that’s right, not you and me.”
In a sleepy French town, a rhinoceros rushes across the market square, terrifying its inhabitants and crushing several cats. However, as the citizens themselves begin to grow horns and join in on the stampede, only the unlikely hero Berenger refuses to change.
Through a powerful combination of physical theatre and multimedia design, RHINO is sure to cement itself as a landmark piece of this year's theatrical calendar, one that will leave you reflecting long after the lights have faded. Combining the absurdist comedy of Eugene Ionesco's 'Rhinoceros' with the provocative edge of Netflix's ‘Black Mirror’, RHINO offers a thrilling perspective of our Brave New World.

Artistic Aims:
Patrick’s vision for this adaptation was a virtual environment for these characters to inhabit, and for the rhinoceros to be a virus infecting and replicating everyone and everything in it.
The role of video within this production was to realise the virtual environment of RHINO. Working alongside his fellow creatives to establish a unified aesthetic for was paramount to bringing our audience into this absurdist reality.
Eoin was heavily inspired by the aesthetics of MS-DOS systems like Windows 95 and the retrofuturism we see in movies such as Tron.
